Atlantic Anniversary Race Crew Update #18

Endlich Sonne!!! Seit gestern stehen wir hier wieder im T-Shirt an Deck, das Ganze aber leider bei sehr wenig Wind aus einer mäßig bis schlechten Richtung, sodass wir die ganze Zeit vor dem Wind kreuzen müssen.
Kaffee: aus, Cola: fast aus, Milchpulver: aus, aber endlich ist Land in Sicht (gut für die Seele) und die Meetings zum taktischen Endspurt sind voll in Gange: Englische Südküste ganz hoch oder sich doch noch nach Frankreich orientieren?
Haben mit Passieren von Lizard Point nun auch offiziell den Atlantik verlassen. Unsere ständigen Begleiter(Delphine) lassen sich weniger blicken und wir sind alles Andere als schnell.
Der Wind ist schwach, sehr schwach ! Die Großwetterlage sieht nach keiner großen Veränderung aus. Somit wird es wohl Donnerstag mit unserem Zieldurchgang, or later – „but you never know“?
Generell haben wir das Wachsystem umgestellt von 2 x Fünf auf 3 x Drei. Gibt uns mehr Flexibilität im Kanal und mischt auch etwas auf…..
Jetzt heißt es kämpfen, nicht mit den Naturgewalten wie viel Wind, Wellen etc.,sondern eher mental – da Flaute des Seglers Feind ist aber mit dieser Linesmen Crew – no problem.

Finally we are getting some sun!! Since yesterday we have been able to stand on deck in t-shirts instead of foul-weather gear again, sadly with very little wind making us tack in front of it due to the bad direction it’s coming from.
Coffee: gone. Cola: almost gone. Milk Powder: gone. But finally we can see land again (good for the spirit) and the tactical meetings are picking up a bit again. Should we stick to the English coast or jump over to the French regions? decisions over decisions.
After passing ‚Lizard Point‘ we have now left the Atlantic behind us for good, our constant companions (dolphins) are saying their goodbyes while we slowly make our way towards the channel.
The wind is very low and it doesn’t look like it’s going to change in the next days. This means we will probably pass the finish line on Thursday or later, but let’s see and wait, you never know.
We switched up the shift system from a 2 x 5 to a 3 x 3 system. This gives us a bit more flexibility in the channel and also it counteracts the boredom on board.
Now it’s all about fighting hard, not necessarily any forces of nature like winds and waves, but rather mentally. A lull of the wind is the sailor’s biggest enemy when it comes to staying mentally sharp. But with this Linesmen crew that should not be an issue 😉
